Clint Eastwood on target mocking empty chair presidency of Obama, failed employee of the people, trashed our hard earned money

UPDATE, 9/7/12, "“President Obama is the greatest hoax ever perpetrated on the American people,” Clint Eastwood said in an interview.

--------------------------------------

"Meanwhile, President Obama jets to college campuses in the carbon-gushing Air Force One....Obama and his administration officials have made 435 taxpayer-funded visits to college campuses or other events targeting students since March 2011."

8/31/12, "Eastwood Rightly Mocks An Empty-Chair Presidency," IBD Editorial

"In remarks to a chair as vacant as the one in the Oval Office, a Hollywood icon reminds us that the president is a failed employee of the people and it's time to let him go.

As performance shtick, it may not have come off perfectly. But judging from the reaction from those "left of Lenin," as 82-year-old Hollywood legend described it during a sort of surprise appearance at the Republican National Convention Thursday, it skewered our absentee president perfectly.

"Clint, my hero, is coming across as sad and pathetic," tweeted "left of Lenin" film critic Roger Ebert as Eastwood ad-libbed Thursday night to an audience of millions — and one empty chair. "He didn't need to do this to himself. It's unworthy of him."

Eastwood's point, though delivered haltingly, was that President Obama is unworthy of the great nation he disparages and apologizes for incessantly, and that our failed employee should be given his walking papers.

Ebert and others miss the point that it is what Obama has done to us that is sad and pathetic.

Eastwood brought us back to that night four years ago in Denver when the candidate depicted in the not-yet-faded "hope and change" posters stood among Styrofoam Greek columns and promised to lower the sea and heal the planet. Four years later the only thing President Obama has lowered is his golf score.

"Everybody is crying, Oprah was crying. I was even crying ... and I haven't cried that hard since I found out that there are 23 million unemployed people in this country," Eastwood said. This has been

  • a sad and pathetic presidency that has left America in tears.

Eastwood reminded us that as taxpayers "we own this country," and as landlords we have the right to evict the occupant of the White House that has run up our electric, grocery and fuel bills. Under Obama, America, as represented by the White House, is "underwater" $16 trillion in debt, and with a national mortgage greater than our national income.

Some felt that Eastwood was trying to make amends for Chrysler's "Halftime In America" Super Bowl ad, which many felt was an endorsement of both government bailouts and the Obama administration. Eastwood insists it was a tribute to the American spirit, not to the president who has spent the past four years trying to crush it.

The government has sold its stake in Chrysler to Italian automaker Fiat. Nor is Government Motors itself much of a success story, with shareholders shafted in favor of union bosses and the taxpayer holding the bag to the tune of tens of billions of dollars of devalued stock as the economy is stuck in neutral and the government pushes the fire-prone Chevy Volt.

Eastwood highlighted the empty chair and the empty promises and policies that failed to lower both the sea level and the unemployment rate, stuck at more than 8% for 42 months, a post-Depression record. Meanwhile, President Obama jets to college campuses in the carbon-gushing Air Force One to prattle on about student loans to college students who won't be able to find jobs.

Obama and his administration officials have made 435 taxpayer-funded visits to college campuses or other events targeting students since March 2011. Included have been 164 trips to battleground states, a new study shows, leaving him too busy to meet with his jobs council to find these kids work.

Eastwood's empty chair reminds us of the poem by William Hughes Mearns that goes in part: "Last night I saw upon the stair, A little man who wasn't there, He wasn't there again today, Oh, how I wish he'd go away .. ."

Eastwood suggests that in November we can make our invisible president do just that.

About the only thing that Eastwood needed was to place an empty suit in that empty chair." via Lucianne

Antarctic Ice extent highest this date, 8/30/12, among Augusts going back 6 years-NOAA NIC graph

Government owned BBC is either lying or misinformed when it reports today that Antarctic Ice is melting:

8/29/12, "Antarctic may host methane stores," BBC

"Large volumes of methane - a potent greenhouse gas - could be locked beneath the ice-covered regions of Antarctica, according to a new study.

It says this methane could be released into the atmosphere as ice retreats, contributing to climate warming."...

===========================

State-owned BBC says methane climate terror could be worse than ongoing CO2 terror via catastrophic man-caused global warming. BBC says in the Antarctic "as ice retreats"...but offers no proof Antarctic ice "is retreating." US government data says it's not retreating. BBC says increased CO2 will cause billions of tons of lethal methane gas to escape which will burn the planet even faster. Billions more US taxpayer dollars will of course be needed. (BBC doesn't mention US taxpayers but that connection has been established by 'climate' officials in the past).

BBC doesn't mention US CO2 has dropped since at least 2006 and is going lower. Other countries' CO2 hasn't dropped despite hundreds of billions spent on cap and trade and extra taxes. Perhaps US CO2 vanished more quickly and surely than 'investors' anticipated. (Assuming CO2 was ever a danger to begin with). If the BBC/UK government is truly concerned about CO2 unleashing 'potent' methane, it will inform itself of the latest science regarding which countries are problems, which aren't, and focus its advocacy accordingly.

"In a surprising turnaround, the amount of carbon dioxide being released into the atmosphere in the U.S. has fallen dramatically to its lowest level in 20 years, and government officials say the biggest reason is that cheap and plentiful natural gas has led many power plant operators to switch from dirtier-burning coal.

Many of the world's leading climate scientists didn't see the drop coming, in large part because it happened as a result of market forces rather than direct government action against carbon dioxide, a greenhouse gas that traps heat in the atmosphere.

Michael Mann, director of the Earth System Science Center at Penn State University, said the shift away from coal is reason for "cautious optimism" about potential ways to deal with climate change."...

Why does Obama use an ad team that lies? So-called 'Republican women for Obama' exposed as Democrats

8/25/12, "Two in ‘Republican women for Obama’ ad exposed as Democrats," Daily Caller, Jeff Poor

"Although the ad got a lot of playtime on MSNBC Friday, a recent so-called “Republican women for Obama” video advertisement has turned out to be a disingenuous campaign ploy.

That ad, posted on the official Barack Obama campaign YouTube page on Friday, claimed to show a group of women that had previously voted Republican but later abandoned the party because they felt it went too far to the right, leaving them no alternative but to vote for President Barack Obama this November.

The problem is, so far two of these women have been shown to be Democrats who had previously supported Obama.

First pointed out by Zeke Miller of Buzzfeed, one of the featured actors in the video, Maria Ciano had been a registered Democrat since October 2006, according to Colorado voter registration records.

John Hinderaker of Powerline took it a step further and investigated Ciano’s Facebook page and found some of her Facebook “likes” fall under many left-on-center causes:

India's climate of corruption, sale of massive coal resources to crony capitalists alleged, Indian parliament in chaos

$33 billion may be lost via India's "deeply troubled coal sector."

8/22/12, "Suspected "Coalgate" corruption paralyses Indian parliament," Reuters

"India's Central Bureau of Investigation is probing possible corruption in the sale of coal concessions to private companies, it said on Wednesday, as the affair dubbed "coalgate" caused uproar in parliament, paralysing it for a second day in a row.

The CBI is investigating suspected collusion between state officials and private companies in underpriced sales of coalfields that the state auditor said last week may have cost the exchequer as much as $33 billion in lost revenues.

The agency would not say whether it had uncovered any irregularities, but both its investigation and the state auditor's report will likely raise fresh questions about "crony capitalism" as well as the government's involvement in the deeply troubled coal sector.

Asia's third-largest economy relies on coal for two-thirds of its power generation but despite having one of the world's largest proven coal reserves there is a growing gap between demand and supply, which critics blame on state-run Coal India's failure to boost output.

There were rowdy scenes in both houses of parliament as opposition lawmakers, shouting and shaking their fists, demanded the resignation of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, who was coal minister between 2006-2009, when many of the sales occurred."...

Ice in glacier north of Himalayas has increased so much may be causing decrease in ocean sea level-Nature Geoscience letter

8/21/12, "Karakoram Rising," The Resilient Earth, Doug L. Hoffman

"A letter to Nature Geoscience reports that the Karakoram glaciers, a part of the greater Himalaya north of the actual Himalaya Range, are actually gaining mass. Outside the ice sheets in Greenland and Antarctica, the Karakoram is the most heavily glaciated part of the world, containing nearly 3% of the planet's total ice area. But because they are so large, difficult to get to and dangerous to travel on, they have not been measured by conventional survey methods. Scientists have instead, been relying on satellite measurements, whose accuracy is now called into question. This impressive new study says that the Karakoram glaciers are not only not shrinking, they are accumulating enough ice each year to cause
  • a slight decrease in ocean sea-level."...

Hockey Stick creator Michael Mann's lawyer cites NSF approval, but NSF staff was diverted to attend overwhelming porn problems and romances, per IG

Michael Mann's lawyer cites NSF approval in the apparent belief that this gives his client credibility. Following is an excerpt from the 8/23/12 statement of John B. Williams of Cozen O'Connor, lawyer for Mr. Mann:

""Dr. Mann's research has been extensively reviewed by a number of independent parties, including the National Science Foundation, with never a suggestion of any fraud or research misconduct.""...via "Climate Depot's Exclusive Report Challenging Michael Mann's climate claims."

According to a 2009 Inspector General report and Freedom of Information documents, NSF has been so overwhelmed with porn viewing and staff romances for many years that it's had to divert personnel from scientific grant oversight to address the problem. The IG report said science staffing would be "significantly" affected for "years" to come. Following are 2 articles, one from the Washington Times and one from the NY Times:

""What kind of oversight is there when they have to shift people from looking at grant fraud to watch for people looking at pornography?"" said Leslie Paige, spokeswoman for nonpartisan watchdog Citizens Against Government Waste

9/29/2009, "Porn Surfing rampant at US science foundation," Washington Times, by Jim McElhatton

""To manage this dramatic increase without an increase in staff required us to significantly reduce our efforts to investigate grant fraud," the inspector general recently told Congress in a budget request.
  • "We anticipate a significant decline in investigative recoveries and prosecutions
  • in coming years
  • as a direct result."

The budget request doesn't state the nature or number of the misconduct cases, but records obtained by The Times through the Freedom of Information Act laid bare the extent of the well-publicized porn problem inside the government-backed foundation. For instance, one senior executive spent at least 331 days looking at pornography on his government computer and chatting online with nude or partially clad women without being detected, the records show.

When finally caught, the NSF official retired. He even offered, among other explanations, a humanitarian defense, suggesting that he frequented the porn sites to provide a living to the poor overseas women....

The independent foundation, funded by taxpayers to the tune of $6 billion in 2008, is tasked with handing out scientific grants to colleges, universities and research institutions nationwide. ...It has a total of 1,200 career employees. Recent budget documents for the inspector general cite a "6-fold increase in employee misconduct cases and associated proactive management implication report activities." ...Leslie Paige, a spokeswoman for the nonpartisan watchdog Citizens Against Government Waste, called the situation "inexcusable."

"What kind of oversight is there when they have to shift people from looking at grant fraud to watch for people looking at pornography?" she said....

The foundation's inspector general uncovers scientific misconduct that can force the return of misused grant money to the government but told Congress

The office was unable to immediately provide an estimate of how much money the projected decline in investigative recoveries

  • will cost taxpayers....

The newly obtained documents provide fresh evidence that the problem wasn't just an embarrassment: It was expensive and often went undetected for long periods of time.

The names of all of the employees targeted in the pornography cases were redacted from the more than 120 pages of investigative documents released to The Times. Names were withheld because none of the employees was subject to criminal prosecution, recent civil court action or debarment....

Another employee in a different case was caught with hundreds of pictures, videos and even PowerPoint slide shows containing pornography. Asked by an investigator whether he had completed any government work on a day when a significant amount of pornography was downloaded, the employee responded,

  • "Um, I can't remember," according to records....

The foundation is hardly the only government agency to be embarrassed by disclosures about employees looking at pornography at work.

The inspector general for the Securities and Exchange Commission noted in a report last fall that it had recently conducted three investigations into employees who misused government computers to view pornography."...

9/29/2009, "Porn Surfing rampant at US science foundation," Washington Times, by Jim McElhatton

----------------------------------------------------------------

"Two senior (NSF) agency employees used government travel money to pursue intimate relationships with subordinates."...

4/7/09, "Senators fault science agency over lax handling of pornography case," NY Times, by Gardiner Harris

"The National Science Foundation has failed to respond adequately to a government investigation that found that more than a dozen agency employees viewed or shared sexually explicit materials, two senators contend in a letter sent to the agency on Monday.

Senator Charles E. Grassley, Republican of Iowa, and Senator Barbara A. Mikulski, Democrat of Maryland, asked the National Science Foundation to explain how the agency could have failed to detect the use of pornography that eventually involved more than 30 employees

In one case, a senior staff member used his agency computer to view live sexual performances and engage in sex-oriented online “chatting” with performers.

  • “I am trying to learn how to use cam2cam capability on your asianbabes.com site,” he wrote in an e-mail message to the site from his agency computer. “I do not seem to be able to do that.”
Jeff Nesbit, an agency spokesman, responded that the employee was no longer with the agency and that other agency employees had been disciplined or dismissed. The agency is conducting a comprehensive review of the issue, Mr. Nesbit said.

But the senators’ letter noted that in 5 of 11 cases of employees viewing explicit material or being involved in sexual harassment cases,

had failed to notify its inspector general of any action taken

  • or had failed to investigate the cases itself.

The foundation has not disciplined one 20-year employee who has acknowledged visiting pornography Web sites on his agency computer, the letter said. The agency has said it had been “unable to substantiate allegations sufficiently enough to support disciplinary action” despite the employee’s admissions, it said.

The senators wrote that they did not understand “how or why N.S.F. failed to take action.”

Their letter also noted that two senior agency employees used government travel money to pursue intimate relationships with subordinates.

And it said that all of the employees investigated for viewing sexually explicit material had been through the agency’s mandatory security awareness training.

Clearly, N.S.F.’s current polices and their implementation are apparently insufficient to deter, among other things, inappropriate Web access for the purpose of viewing sexually explicit material,” the senators wrote."

=============================

Ed. note: These articles describe an extremely troubled agency that freely admits it can't do the work it's being paid to do. The time frame for this reaches back indefinitely and carries forward at least a few years after 2009. Michael Mann's work isn't mentioned in these articles. The point is that NSF approval doesn't automatically confer scientific excellence.

'Stick it where the Global Warming sun don't shine,' Steyn to the Hockey Team

8/22/12, "Stick It Where the Global Warming Don't Shine," Mark Steyn, SteynOnline

"When last we heard from Michael Mann, his chest-thumping lawyer was bellowing, "I don't bluff." As Jonathan Adler writes today at the Volokh Conspiracy lawyers' blog:

I think the folks at NR just called it.

Indeed. You can get the general line of NR's response to Dr Mann from the headline:

Get Lost.

Watts Up With That calls it "the best Michael Mann headline evah". But read the rest of Rich Lowry's reply, too - especially the bits related to discovery, or, as Aussie Climate Madness calls it, "Mann's risky path". Red State also weighs in, and a sharp post by Powerline's Steven Hayward concludes:

By the way, hasn't Mann heard of the track record of people who haul Mark Steyn into court? It isn't pretty.

Actually, I'll bet Michael Mann had never heard of me when he blew his gasket, and I'll wager his high-priced counsel never bothered doing two minutes of Googling. If they had, they'd have known that once they start this thing they'd better be prepared to go the distance.

For my part, although I've been dismissive of Mann's "hockey stick" for over a decade, I'd never paid much attention to him personally. All I'd say is he seems strangely insecure for a person of such eminence. I wonder what he'll be like on the witness stand. And I'll be interested to see whether his page links to NR's lawyer's letter the way my page linked to his lawyer's.

Hockey sticks akimbo, baby!

By the way, if you've ever thought of donating to National Review, or better yet subscribing, there's never been a better time.

In a related development, a big pile of documents were very belatedly released yesterday under the Freedom of Information Act. Among them, an email from one of Dr Mann's fellow scientists complaining about being "hit on the head with a hockey stick".

On Muslim feast of Eid, West African country announces all homosexuals and drug users will be executed in September

8/21/12, "Gambia to execute all death row prisoners next month," AFP, by News Wires, France 24

"Gambian President Yahya Jammeh (pictured) pledged to have all of the country’s death-row prisoners executed by mid-September in a stern Eid address aired on Sunday which targeted “heinous acts” including homosexuality and drug use.

Gambian President Yahya Jammeh has told the people of his tiny west African nation that by the middle of September all those already sentenced to death for crimes will be executed.

He added that crimes like banditry, drug trafficking or illicit use, homosexuality, murder, terrorism and other subversive activities against either the state or the people will not be tolerated.

Jammeh said in a televised address broadcast on Sunday evening and Monday to mark this year's Muslim feast of Eid-al-Fitr that the security forces and the judiciary will continue to be empowered to enforce the law where applicable.

"By the middle of next month, all the death sentences would have been carried out to the letter; there is no way my government will allow 99 percent of the population to be held to ransom by criminals," Jammeh said.

Though he did not give the exact figure of those to be executed, an AFP toll puts the figure of those condemned to death since July 2010, including former security chiefs, at 47.

However judicial sources say the figure is higher than that.

"All those guilty of serious crimes and (who) are condemned will face the full force of the law. All punishments prescribed by law will be maintained in the country to ensure that criminals get what they deserve," Jammeh said.

"My government will take whatever legal action is necessary to expunge these deadly and heinous acts from the country," he said.

Jammeh, a former military officer who seized power in a 1994 coup, brooks no dissent in a country often blasted by rights bodies for abuses."

Desperate 'green' financier Matthews denies science of US CO2 drop, says Republicans who disagree with him are 'dangerous and a threat to life'

From Eco-Business, Matthews: "Republican confusion is dangerous, it threatens our very survival. As such, engaging Republican supporters must be a priority. While there are many who are so entrenched, they will refuse any reasonable discussion, there are others who will respond to reason. These individuals must be the focus of environmental advocacy."...Mr. Matthews, US CO2 has dropped and is going lower. You're exactly what you accuse others of being which is "dangerous." You should be congratulating yourself for winning the battle to lower US CO2 instead of accusing Republicans (or anyone) of intent to commit mass murder:

8/20/12, "Building support for action on climate change before we reach tipping points," Eco-Business, Richard Matthews

US CO2 has dropped since at least 2006 and is going lower. Unfortunately Mr. Matthews denies climate science and other facts and demands 'action' against CO2. Massive global warming 'action' was institutionalized in US government in 1990 by George Bush the 1st in the "U.S. Global Change Research Act of 1990." (He mentions CO2 near the end). Devoting 13 federal agencies to 'climate' matters and paying half of UN IPCC expenses is hardly lagging in action! Even the US military now spends billions on green endeavors. Government has partnered with the 'climate' industry by funneling trillions from US taxpayers to climate endeavors via agency budget allocations, tax subsidies, countless federal regulations, and vast sums given in foreign aid to save the 'climate.' The US economy has obediently weakened itself so it's now a fuel exporter.

People are starving because climate 'action' has moved human beings to the back of the bus, to carry on with your civil rights reference to Dr. King.

Other countries' CO2 hasn't dropped despite hundreds of billions spent on cap and trade and extra taxes. US CO2 is now a moot issue. Perhaps this situation adversely affects persons with 'climate' investments such as Mr. Matthews. Perhaps US CO2 vanished more quickly and surely than 'investors' anticipated. (Assuming CO2 was ever a danger to begin with).

Mr. Matthews, it's over. Instead of admitting it you try to convince others that Republicans are mass murderers who threaten humanity.

Persons who continue to sell US CO2 terror are either ignorant, fraudulent, or need to check into a mental hospital. The rest of us care very much about our environment and will continue our stewardship without allowing our country to be hijacked by unelected 'green' profiteers.

A 2011 report noted EIA results through 2009, US CO2 emissions dropped steadily since 1999. If, hypothetically, US temperatures have been on the increase, such couldn't possibly be due to US carbon dioxide emissions:

The figure, from a recent report from the Congressional Research Service (CRS), shows that despite another year of $1 trillion deficits, the Obama administration
continues to pursue its policy of using foreign aid funds for anti-global warming measures – known as the Global Climate Change Initiative (GCCI).

According to CRS, the government has spent a total of $2.5 billion on GCCI since 2010 on overseas anti-global warming efforts in Latin America, Asia, and Africa."...
